The smart yet simple design of Ayalytical Instruments engine coolant corrosion apparatus guarantees full compliance with ASTM D1384. This apparatus is ideal for distinguishing between engine coolants that are unquestionably lacking in their corrosion protection properties and those worthy of further testing, however, the results of tests performed in accordance with ASTM D1384 are not conclusive to firmly establish sample fluids as benignly noncorrosive. Using this apparatus, the coolant sample is diluted with a corrosive water solution and aerated. A metal specimen (e.g. copper, steel, brass, iron, or aluminum) is then added to the coolant and boiled for approximately 14 days. Finally, the corrosiveness of the coolant is evaluated based on the weight change of the metal specimen before and after testing.

This unit is comprised primarily of a thermoregulated electric plate heater for the safe and continuous boiling of sample fluids; a precise, manually adjustable flow-meter system (6L/hr) with pin valves and internal pump; a water condenser; and an aerator tube for constant, silent oxygen diffusion. The entire apparatus is enclosed in a polished, sturdy stainless steel frame for superior protection and extended working lifetime. The setup comes equipped with 1-liter beaker and rubber stopper for the safe containment of test samples, a Dewar glass jar supported via stainless steel base, and stabilizing clamps to support the glassware during testing.

This compact, easy-to- operate engine coolant corrosion apparatus is available in a basic single model or deluxe quadruple-position model (additional glassware provided), the latter of which is capable of testing four coolant samples simultaneously. The enclosed thermoregulator covers working temperatures ranging from ambient to 160C (320F) and maintains 1C for when stability is absolutely critical.
