Ensuring full compliance with ASTM D2002, Ayalytical Instruments’ isolation fractional column apparatus is ideal for the isolation of representative saturates fraction from gasolines and other debutanized hydrocarbon mixtures that distill below 240ºC (400ºF) and which contain less than 1% olefinic hydrocarbons. The procedure is performed by first charging a measured sample to the top of the column, which is packed with silica gel. The adsorbed sample is then progressively desorbed with alcohol, allowing for separation of the hydrocarbons according to their adsorption infinities. The saturated hydrocarbon components are least adsorbed and issue from the bottom of the silica gel column first. The total percolate collected prior to the illusion of the yellow fluorescing olifinic marker is then measured to determine the saturates in the sample.
